With their backs against the wall, the supes pulled off a win in which they finally got some things right, since going on a 3 game losing streak. Returning to the basics, the Sonics passed the ball well and racked up 28 assists on 40 field goals made.
Reggie Evans started the game and pulled down 13 rebounds, which accounts for the 10 more shots the Sonics attempted than the Bobcats. This is why Evans is so vital to the Sonics game. If you're shooting more shots than your opponent you're more likely to score more points, and win, obviously. This is what Reggie provides for the Sonics. More possessions, more shots, more opportunities for points.
The only problem is that his efficiency declines when he starts attempting put-back shots or gets fouled and goes to the free throw line, where he usually only makes one of two shots. When Reggie learns his role as a non-shooter but rather a rebounder-passer, his efficiency will further increase.
Collison had an off game but Ray and Lewis were both on, and Ridnour had an impressive stat line with 12 assists, 14 points, 2 steals, 1 block, and only 1 turnover.
Damien Wilkins was very impressive, playing consistent excellent defense including 2 steals which both turned into fast breaks and layups for the Sonics. I don't know why Weiss doesn't play him more. He or Cleaves should have Murray's minutes.
Murray had a decent stat line but it sure didn't seem that way watching him play. He chucked up a very long 3-pointer with about 4 on the shotclock, which is far too much time to be chucking up prayers. Other than that, his defense was nonexistant but his offense was pretty good.
Potapenko is just a foul machine and I don't know why he has a job. When he lowers his head and "drives" to the basket he might as well just slap a bullseye on his jersey to be called for an offensive foul, as he resembles a charging bull. It's no wonder Calabro refers to him as the "Ukraine Train."
Petro should have Potapenko's minutes.
Ray
Lewis
Ridnour
Collison
Reggie
Damien
Petro
Cleaves
This should be our rotation, Weiss is spreading the minutes too thin by playing so many players in a game.
